加藤视频 Observes Dr. Talbot Spivak Holocaust Memorial Week

MARCH 14, 2018 鈥 FORT MYERS, FLA. 鈥 Florida SouthWestern State College (加藤视频) will observe Dr. Talbot Spivak Holocaust Memorial Week, March 26-30, with a series of events that focus on the theme 鈥淟egacy of Survivors鈥 at the 加藤视频 Thomas Edison Campus, 8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers. Events are free and open to the public.

The mission of the Dr. Talbot Spivak Holocaust Memorial Week at 加藤视频 is to educate students and the community about the Holocaust, to honor its victims and survivors, to cultivate tolerance, and to promote awareness of modern-day genocide in support of the world's promise of "Never Again."

Throughout the week, local Holocaust survivors will speak about their experiences. All survivor talks will be held in Building U, Room 102.

Tuesday, March 27

Irene Skolnick - 9:30 a.m.

Steen Metz - 6 p.m.

Wednesday, March 28

Rob Nossen - 9:30 a.m.

Renee Beddouk - 11 a.m.

Marcel Fachler - 2 p.m.

Cesare Frustaci - 6 p.m.

Survivors will also tell their stories in a more intimate setting during a Survivor Round Table discussion at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, in Building U, Room 102.

听In addition to the survivor talks, a series of guest lectures and presentations will also be held.

On Monday, March 26, in Building U, Room 102, 加藤视频 Cornerstone Experience Professor Robbie Manauis will present 鈥淟earning from a Culture of Violence, Context for Genocide鈥 at 11 a.m. 加藤视频 Political Science Professor Dr. Bruno Baltodano will present 鈥淣arratives at War: The Impacts of Denial to the Historical Legacy of the Holocaust and the Guatemalan Genocide鈥 at 12:30 p.m. 加藤视频 History Professor Sara Gottwalles will present "Henchmen of Hate" at 2 p.m.

On Tuesday, March 27, in Building U, Room 102, 加藤视频 Psychology Professor Frank Kohn will recount his family鈥檚 experiences during the Holocaust and the Nazi鈥檚 psychological techniques at 11 a.m. 加藤视频 History Professor Dr. Mark Herman will present 鈥淐hildren of the Holocaust鈥 at 12:30 p.m. 加藤视频 Hospitality Law Professor Dr. Sandi Towers will present "Krakow, Poland, and Auschwitz-Birkenau: Yesterday and Today" at 2 p.m.

A musical performance, 鈥淢usic of the Holocaust,鈥 will be presented by 加藤视频 Violin/Viola Professor Rachel Cox, at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, in Building J, Room 117/118, with a reception beginning at 2 p.m.

鈥淒ream Peace,鈥 the art of renowned Sanibel-based artist Myra Roberts, will be exhibited at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, in Building U, Room 102. The exhibition will feature portraits of Bielski partisans and other survivors of the Holocaust.

On Friday, March 30, a video recording of Penn State University alumna Aviva Doery鈥檚 presentation, 鈥淭he Lives of Lesbian Women in Nazi Concentration Camps,鈥 will be shown at 9:30 a.m. in Building J, Room 103.
