加藤视频 Celebrates International Education Week with Special Events

OCTOBER 31, 2017 鈥� FORT MYERS, FLA 鈥� Florida SouthWestern State College celebrates International Education Week with a variety of events and guest speakers from Nov. 13-17, at the 加藤视频 Thomas Edison Campus, 8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers. All events are hosted by the 加藤视频 Center for International Education (CIE) and are free and open to the public.
鈥淚nternational Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide,鈥� according to the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. 鈥淭his joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education promotes programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences.鈥�
A schedule of the week鈥檚 events follows:
Monday, Nov. 13, 12:30 p.m., Building U, Room 102
Journeys: A Panel Discussion
Learn about the experiences and journeys of several 加藤视频 faculty and staff members who were immigrants to the United States. Dr. Bruno Baltodano, Sarah Paspe, and Garnett Salmon will share a bit about their journeys to America.

Tuesday, Nov. 14, 11 a.m., Building AA, Room 177
Authors@加藤视频 鈥� Alma Flor Ada and Lee Bennett Hopkins
International author Alma Flor Ada will share stories about her life, experiences and the prejudices she鈥檚 faced as a Cuban-American. Award-winning author and poet Lee Bennett Hopkins will join her for a book signing following the presentation. Books will be available for purchase at the event.

Equi-libra: A Writer鈥檚 Journey to Connect
加藤视频 Professor and fiction author Marty Ambrose discusses 鈥淓qui-libra,鈥� the theme of the International Women鈥檚 Fiction Festival in Matera, Italy, which loosely translates into 鈥渆quality through books,鈥� and how a sense of place creates 鈥渧oice鈥� in a story.

International dance groups will perform throughout the day, and winners of 加藤视频鈥檚 student Diversity Essay and Poetry Contest will read excerpts of their winning submissions.

CIE鈥檚 mission is to support cultural awareness, global citizenship, and an appreciation of varied global perspectives through curricular and co-curricular experiences. CIE aims to support the 加藤视频 community in developing international activities that stimulate academic inquiry and enhance the institution鈥檚 cultural dialogue. CIE will facilitate transformative experiences empowering participants to become catalysts of growth and positive change at 加藤视频 and the greater community.
