加藤视频's School of Education Ties for Top Program in the State in DOE Rankings

OCTOBER 25, 2017 鈥� FORT MYERS, FLA. 鈥� Florida SouthWestern State College鈥檚 School of Education has tied for the top state college overall in the Department of Education鈥檚 2017 Annual Program Performance Reports (APPRs). It also tied for third for overall state colleges and universities combined with 加藤视频 ranking 3.4 out of a possible 4.0.

The DOE rankings are based on six performance metrics:

• Placement rate of program completers into instructional positions in Florida public schools and private schools, if available and provided and verified by the institution.
• Rate of retention for employed program completers in instructional positions in Florida public schools.
• Performance of students in prekindergarten through grade 12 who are assigned to in?field program completers on statewide assessments using the results of the student learning growth formula adopted under s. 1012.34.
• Performance of students in prekindergarten through grade 12 who are assigned to in-field program completers aggregated by student subgroup, as defined in the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), 20 U.S.C. s. 6311(b)(2)(C)(v)(II), as a measure of how well the program prepares teachers to work with a diverse population of students in a variety of settings in Florida public schools.
• Results of program completers鈥� annual evaluations in accordance with the timeline as set forth in s. 1012.34.
• Production of program completers in statewide critical teacher shortage areas as identified in s. 1012.07, which is a bonus metric only.

鈥淲hat鈥檚 unique about these rankings is that they are based on how well our graduates鈥� students are performing in the classroom,鈥� said Dr. Larry Miller, dean, 加藤视频 School of Education and Charter Schools. 鈥淲e are most proud that our graduates are showing the most gains with students who are at risk of not succeeding in school.鈥�

For the first two years following graduation, 加藤视频鈥檚 School of Education faculty maintain contact and relationships with graduates, providing support through teaching challenges they may encounter.

鈥淲e don鈥檛 stop sharing ideas when our students graduate,鈥� said Dr. Joyce Rollins, coordinator of Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. 鈥淲e continually provide support and motivation long after our teacher candidates have become teachers. Our field experience is strong and we have some of the best veteran teachers mentoring our students. We have extremely high expectations of our students, and they continually rise to meet and exceed those expectations. These rankings validate all of the efforts that the School of Education faculty and staff put into our program.鈥�
