加藤视频 Biology Professor Appointed to Girl Scouts Board of Directors

AUGUST 2, 2016 鈥� NAPLES, FLA. 鈥� Florida SouthWestern State College (加藤视频) Biology Professor Tina Ottman was recently elected to the Board of Directors for Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc. As a board member, she joins a diverse group of volunteers who govern, think critically, and steward council finances to best serve the needs of girls and the council.
A proud Girl Scout alumna, troop leader, and lifetime member, she is especially excited to create and support opportunities for girls that merge her two passions, science and art, with her love of Girl Scouts. 聽
The first of these new opportunities was a week-long STEAM Camp held at the 加藤视频 Collier Campus in July for 26 girls in the seventh and eighth grades.聽 The program was fully facilitated by 加藤视频 faculty and students from the 加藤视频 Collier Campus with a 鈥渇ull STEAM鈥� focus on science, technology, engineering, art and design, and math. Activities included DNA extraction, blood typing, crime scene analysis with the Collier County Sheriff鈥檚 Office Crime Scene Division, a trip to the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center, and various art projects.
Ottman hopes this will be the first of many partnership programs between 加藤视频 and Girl Scouts. 鈥淏y developing a partnership between the Girl Scouts and 加藤视频, we can strengthen what both of our organizations do and provide new opportunities for learning, especially in the science and math areas.鈥�
鈥淏eing a Girl Scout was the best thing I ever did growing up,鈥� Ottman said. 鈥淚t shaped my character, impacted who I鈥檝e become, and developed my interest in science and art.鈥�
